Thanks for an amazing week

Lilja and I would like to thank the Hungarian team for coming to visit us here in Iceland. We would also like to thank our team of Icelandic students for their participation; we are super proud of you guys and can't wait to travel to Hungary with you! It is difficult to choose from our collection of photos but below are some of our favorites.

A trip to Iceland

Image
A post by Norbert Schmidt I have learned a lot about the Icelandic Sagas and the history of Iceland and I bought the Vinland Saga so I am excited to read it! I also learned about Snorri, the author of Edda. His life is extremely fascinating with his power struggles in Western Iceland. Also, I learned now that Sagas have complicated plots, sometimes difficult to follow.   The most interesting activity was the visit to Reykholt and listening to the guide talk about literature in Medieval Iceland and the visit to the Settlement Center at Borgarnes.   Of course visiting Flyover Iceland was an amazing experience as we could see parts of Iceland we don’t have the time to visit in one week.   I would like to thank the organisers, Kristjana and Lilja for this fun week!

Hugrún goes exploring

A post by Hugrún Lind Stefánsdóttir This week was very fun and we learned a lot more about our Icelandic heritage and past. I learned a lot about how Icelandic sagas were made in the past that I did not know about that well before. I also learned about how closely related all Icelanders are to Snorri Sturlusson and how every Icelander is most likely related to him. It was very fun to take the Hungarians to the social Center in Garður and to see them have a lot of fun. I think that the highlight of the trip was when we went on electric scooters around Reykjavik and we just saw how much fun the Hungarians had on them. I think that the most interesting activity was the elf school. Some of us went to compete with the headmaster to see who could eat an Icelandic pancake with jam and whipped cream the fastest and the headmaster usually won but Kristjana, our teacher, won him when she ate A WHOLE pancake in one bite! She didn’t even chew! But the elf school was very interesting and we had a

A post by Þórir Guðmundsson I think its pretty obvious that the most interesting thing we did this week was the Elfschool. I actually learn 3 things there, I learned that I can eat a pancake in one bite, I also learned that you have to enjoy life more because sometimes you get in situations that you don’t want to be in, like having to be in some Elfschool for 3 hours. Although I found the Elfschool pretty interesting… I did like the headmaster though, he was a brilliant guy, fun guy. We also went to visit horses, it was very fun but the third thing I learned this week is that I am allergic to horses, I didn’t know that. That was definitely an experience, weird experience but everything turned out fine. There was 2 things that stood up this week, the first thing was going to the top of Hallgrímskirkja, I had never done it before and the weather was great and the view?!?!? omg beautiful! The second thing that stood up this week was definitely the FlyOver Iceland, I had never tried it be

Júlían Re-discovers Iceland

A post by Júlían Breki Elentínusson In this really interesting trip I learned a lot about Vikings like Egill Skallagrímsson, his father Skallagrímur Kveldúlfsson and Hrafna Flóki. We also learned about Icelandic horses who are different from almost every horse in the world because they are really small (which leads people to believe they are ponies) and they have a so called fifth gait that other horses don’t have called tölt. Lastly I learned about Icelandic literature and the most famous writer Snorri Sturluson who has had a lot of influence on literature all around the world, but the most interesting activity has to be the saga museum that we did on day three and that is mainly because the wax sculptures were so realistic that I actually thought for a moment that they were real people (that stopped when I touched their ears and they didn’t react) but outside of the agenda was where the real fun began. On day one we went on an electric scooter and went sightseeing around the city, w
