Hungarian visit

A post by Almar Örn Gærdbo Arnarson

We arrived around lunch on Saturday the 13. of April. We got a bus to Eger and met our hosts there. We went straight to lunch at the house and got a tour of our rooms. After seeing our rooms we went to sleep. In the evening we went to see Csenge sing at a pub. On the next day, Sunday we went on a road trip and got on a boat and sailed around a lake. We also looked at some animals.

On Monday we went to Budapest. We got there early and walked around the city. Norbert told us about a lot of things about the early royal family. Then we went to the parliament. It was awesome. When we got home after Budapest we just had to rest a bit. On Tuesday we got around the school and after lunch we walked around Eger. Norbert showed us some important places and then we participated in a scavenger hunt. It was very fun but it was raining. After the program we all went together to a spa. It was very nice and relaxing. On Wednesday We got to the school and learned to make Gulyás and Hungarian pancakes. We got to eat it at lunch and of course it was very good. After lunch we went to Lyceum. (Lyceum means university). We had to walk all the way to the top of the astronomy tower first and got to experience a dark room. It is a place where it has to be very dark inside and we get to see the city reflected through glass from the top of the tower. It was amazing. Then we worked our way down the building and on the second floor there was a library. It had a LOT of books in all sizes. Then after the program we went to the mall. On Thursday we went to a small town called Scilvásvárad. There we took a small and old train into the forest to hike up to a cave. It was very steep. Then we went to a waterfall and walked all the way down to the small town where we got to eat. After arriving home to Eger we all got together and met at Ana's house. We had a lot of fun hanging out and trying Hungarian food. On Friday we went and looked at Eger castle. After the program we went again to the spa.

I have learned many new things and it is super fun to see another culture and how these amazing kids live their lives. I got to learn a lot about the siege of Eger and what happened in 1552. I also liked when we were trying the Hungarian food at Ana's house. It was delicious. But the best part of this trip is getting to know the Hungarians. I have had a very good time and I believe I have made friends for life.
