Traveling to Hungary

Image
A post by Hugrún Lind Stefánsdóttir This trip was very fun and exciting. We learned a lot about the Hungarian culture and past. We landed on a Saturday and went to Eger by a car. We met our families and had lunch and got a bit of rest after a long day of travelling. But then we went to a birthday party later that day and saw Csenge sing and play the guitar.  On Sunday we decided to go to a small zoo and took a boat ride for an hour and saw the beautiful landscape. We then went to look at the animals and saw some fishes, goats, sheep and some deers. The first day we had a program we went to Budapest and I think the most interesting, exciting and beautiful place we visited was the parliament and learned about the history of the first king, Saint Stephen. We also walked around a dock where people were told to take off their in 1944-1945 since the shoes were the most expensive part of their “outfit” and then they were shot in the head and were let to fall into a river.  The ...

Visiting Hungary

A post by Júlían Breki Elentínusson In my trip to Hungary I learned alot about Hungarian culture, literature and history. The trip started with a very long flight from Iceland and when we finally arrived we immediately went home to sleep cause everyone was really tired. Later in the evening we went and watched Csenge sing at a restaurant, then we went to a party with some Hungarian kids. The next day was our last day before the program started so we went to some type of zoo and checked out the animals and then we went and ate together pizza at Csenge’s house.  On Monday the program started and on our first day we went to Budapest and visited a castle, the parliament and Hero’s square. They told us all about the interesting history of Hungary. On Tuesday we got a tour from Norbert in the school and in Eger and once he finished we did a scavenger hunt which was one of the most fun things we did in the whole trip. Wednesday started pretty similar because we stayed in the school ...

A trip to Hungary

A post by Þórir Guðmundsson I really liked visiting Hungary, I really liked that when you eat lunch or dinner there are 3 courses. I also really liked their traditional “gulyás”, it was very good. Everything is also very cheap in Hungary if you compare it to Iceland, like really cheap. It was very interesting to compare the prices. Believe it or not but on this trip I actually learned so much, we visited a lot of beautiful castles and I learned so much about Hungarian history and culture. For example Saint Steven, he was the first king of Hungary from the year 1000 and was the king until he died in 1038. I found it also very interesting that Hungary was once like a very big country, it was like three times bigger than it is now, it was about the size of France I think. But after the World War 1 they lost most of their land.  One thing I also noticed is that the people are here are very proud to be Hungarian and that's one thing I really liked. One of the best things was that ...
