Viola's Viking Voyage

 A post by Viola Valkó

I am so happy, because I had the chance to spend one week in a beautiful country called Iceland. I had an amazing time with amazing people who were so much fun. I saw many gorgeous things from landscapes to museums and in every minute we did something exciting. I tasted traditional dishes and I became one with the locals which I have enjoyed very much.

First of all, the theme of the project was literature and culture so I had learned many new things about it. We went to lots of interesting museums which were very unique to me. For instance in one I got closer to the Settlement Era of Iceland in the Settlement Center and in another I learned about the famous and greatest medieval writer, poet and scholar Snorri Sturluson and his life what was full of adventures and unexpected twists.
I have also learned what the Sagas are and that some people believe elves and mystical creatures exist.

Secondly, as I mentioned before I have participated in many great programmes, however there were some who were better than the others. For instance, the Flyover Iceland was one of my favourites. In this place we felt like we were flying above the breathtaking landscapes of Iceland, above waterfalls and mountains. I have also really enjoyed meeting with the Icelandic horses. We had the chance to ride, groom and pat them and they were really cute.

We also did fun activities outside of the agenda. Every afternoon our host students worked hard to figure something interesting out for us and they didn't disappont us. On Monday in our first day we went and ate some delicious ice cream together. On Tuesday we visited a youth center where we could play darts, foosball, table tennis and billiard together. It was such a laugh everybody had an amazing time. We have also visited the swimming pool where we played an exciting match of water polo and then relaxed in the warm water.

Taking everything into account, I can say everybody had an amazing week and I'm so thankful for our Icelandic teachers and our host students to organised these cool programmes and this unforgettable week.
