Hungarians come to Iceland
A post by Almar Örn Arnarson
We
Icelanders didn't learn as much as the Hungarians but we still learned
something.
The elf school was an interesting
experience. The stories we heard about the elves were interesting but I'm not
sure I believe them. A lot of what the headmaster said and the stories that he
told were interesting but they were most likely not true. But we learned that
there is a community in Iceland that is actively looking for solid proof that
elves and hidden people exist.
I also learned that things that I find
normal and not really special about Iceland is something people not from here
find fascinating. I think the Hungarians enjoyed Flyover Iceland a lot because
they got to see the beauty of the country. But it is also things like northern
lights, the sea and the community center (félagsmiðstöðin). I learned to
appreciate what I have.
I also learned how many museums we have
that highlight the Icelandic sagas and the founding of Iceland we went to 3
museums just focusing on the founders of Iceland and the making of the
Icelandic sagas.
The most interesting activity in the agenda
was the elf school. I have never and probably never will go do something like this
again. We sat there for three hours and listened to an old man talk about elves
and dead people. The outlook that the man had on life was interesting. He told
us that life after death is real and we go to a spirit world, and he knows that
because he has talked to many dead people. That is definitely an experience I
will not forget.
The most fun thing we did outside of the
agenda was when we were traveling around the down town Reykjavík on Hopp bikes.
We had so much fun and the Hungarians enjoyed this a lot.
Thanks for reading. Here below are a few pictures of the trip.
